The Sices Story

We have proudly served the building supply needs of our customers for 65 years. Named after our founder, Edward Sices (pronounced ‘sigh-sess’), our company continues to follow his blueprint for success: steady management and hard work. And while our product focus has gradually changed, our philosophy has remained the same:

  •     • Provide the highest quality products and services
  •     • Remain focused on our customers' needs
  •     • Conduct business with honesty and integrity
  •     • Grow our business through strong customer, vendor, and employee relationships.

Our History

image descriptionSices Material Products was founded in 1948 by Edward Sices (say “sigh-sess”). In our early days, we served primarily as a wholesale link in the distribution chain between building materials manufacturers and retail lumberyards. Our customers relied on us for everything from roofing and siding, to peg board, underlayment, and tempered hardboard.

In the 1950’s, it became clear that the lumberyards were no longer relying on wholesale distributors, so we successfully evolved. We established relationships with builders, contractors, government accounts, and institutional accounts, providing indispensable service to our customers, as we still do today.

This evolution saw us add new products and services. With the introduction of wallboard, we added a specialized delivery service to handle these products via our boom-trucks. Our delivery service grew over time as we became proficient at material handling and job site service.

Through the years, the ownership and management of the company has remained in the Sices family. After our founder passed away in the early 1960’s, his wife, Mrs. Florence Sices, successfully managed the business for nearly two decades. In that era it was rare to find a woman in the top management of a construction supply company, but Mrs. Sices proved the exception. Her leadership and vision paved the way for her son, David Sices. David is president of Sices Material Products today. Finally, in the mid-1990’s, his son Edward Sices joined the team. He has since become an integral part of the operations of the business today.
